Like many of us, Richard has cancer in his family. Taking part in research to help others is also in Richard’s family. His father joined the first UK Aspirin study in the 1960’s. Richard originally took part in the Health 2020 Study, which was set up by Cancer Council Victoria in 1990 to investigate the roles of diet and lifestyle in the development of cancer and other diseases. Now Richard has joined the ABC Study.
Richard knew that with his family’s cancer history he would be able provide important information for the study. His mother’s sister died with leukaemia, his mother died with bowel cancer, and, since joining the study, his father has died with melanoma. Furthermore, Richard was a heavy smoker until finally quitting over a year ago.
Richard particularly appreciates the convenience of the ABC Study, being able to take part from home and in his own time.
