Catch-up with Dr Fiona Bruinsma

Fiona’s role is Senior Manager, Research Co-ordination within the Cancer Epidemiology Division at Cancer Council Victoria and she is an investigator on the ABC Study.

Fiona received her Doctorate in Public Health from La Trobe University in 2010. For the first 15 years of her career, she worked in the area of reproductive and perinatal epidemiology.  Her work focussed on long-term outcomes associated with use of assisted reproductive technologies and pregnancy outcomes following treatment for pre-cancerous changes in the cervix.

Fiona joined Cancer Council Victoria’s Cancer Epidemiology Division in 2011 and has an honorary position with the Melbourne School of Population and Global Health at The University of Melbourne.

Her research interests include the epidemiology of less common cancers (and in particular kidney cancer) and in managing large-scale cohort studies. Since joining Cancer Council Victoria, she has been closely involved in the development and running of the ABC Study.  She enjoys working with the study’s Principal Investigators and the ABC Study Team to continue to ensure the study collects high-quality data and biospecimens, which will be a critical resource for national and international research.
