Why should I participate in the ABC Sleep Pilot Study?

Sleep is one of the pillars of health in addition to nutrition and exercise. This study will help us learn more about collecting sleep data from a large group of people. Your involvement is valuable and much appreciated. You will have access to a daily report of your sleep health on your mobile, enabling you to have more awareness about your sleep patterns and health

How long will ABC Sleep Pilot Study take?

You will be asked to use the sleep monitoring device for 14 days.

Do I get my sleep health results?

Yes, you will have access to your sleep report every day through the Health Mate App you download.

Do I get any benefit if I participate in the ABC Sleep Pilot Study?

The immediate benefit of participating in this study is that you will be able to get your sleep health data every day during the study period. By participating in this study, you may become aware of issues with your sleep health. This may result in these issues being addressed and the potential for improvements in your sleep and/or overall health. In the long-term, you are helping us learn more about sleep and its relationship with health.

Is there any harm if I participate in the ABC Sleep Pilot Study?

No, the risk is very low. Some people may feel uncomfortable learning more about their sleep health. You will also be asked to wear a wrist accelerometer device to measure your movement which some participants may find inconvenient.

When do I return Withings under-mattress and ActiGraph devices?

You will be asked to return the devices in the reply-paid mailing envelope that was provided, at the conclusion of the 14 day study period.

My sleep health data is causing me concern, what should I do?

We understand that seeing your sleep health data from your sleep device may cause you concern. You can call us at the ABC Study on 1800 688 419 to talk to one of our staff members. Alternatively, please contact your GP to discuss your sleep health concerns. They will be able to tailor their advice more specifically to your individual situation and medical history.

Are the devices cleaned between use?

Devices are thoroughly disinfected and sanitised between use.

Which type of mattress can I use with my device?

The sleep device can be used with all brands of mattresses and is compatible with a wide variety of mattresses including spring, latex, foam, and memory foam. Place the sleep device directly under the mattress (between the mattress and the bed slats or box spring).

You can also place the sleep device between your mattress and mattress topper or pad. If you can feel the device when lying in place it between the mattress and the bed frame.

Note: the sleep device has been tested with mattress thicknesses of between 10 to 40 cm. It is not recommended for use with waterbeds and airbeds.

Is it possible to use the sleep device with a bed that can be elevated?

Yes. You can use sleep device with a bed that can be elevated.

If I am using a special mattress with vibration functions, will the sleep device work properly?

We do not recommend the use of the sleep device with mattresses with vibration functions, as there is a risk that the sensor will not correctly detect.

Is the sleep device compatible with the weighted blanket I am using?

The sleep device will work properly with approximately up to 200kg on the bed. Using the sleep device with a weighted blanket is possible as long as you are within the weight recommendation.

How long will I keep the under-mattress device?

You will be asked to place the device under your mattress for 14 days.

What is the Withings under-mattress device measuring?

The Withings under mattress device measures your sleep health including total sleep time and sleep apnoea. It doesn’t collect data on any other activities such as sex.

Can I use the Withings under-mattress device if I share the bed?

Yes, just ensure that you sleep on the side of the bed directly above the monitor.

Can I use Withings under-mattress device if I wear a pacemaker?

Yes, you can use Withings under-mattress device if you wear a pacemaker or other internal medical device.

Can I use the Withings under-mattress device if I have a CPAP machine?

Yes, the Withings under-mattress device can be used with a CPAP machine. Please note that the CPAP machine should be placed next to the bed to ensure proper sleep and snoring tracking.

Can I use the device while I am pregnant?

Yes, there are no known risks associated with pregnant women using sleep monitor.

Can I use the Withings under-mattress device while using an electric blanket?

Yes, there is no known problem associated with using an electric blanket and the sleep device together.

My device isn’t connected. How do I reconnect it?

The package we sent to you included detailed instructions for how to reconnect the device. You may also contact us on 1800 688 419 or {click {here}(links through to contact form) if you need more assistance.

What to do if you already have a Health Mate account?

If you already have a Health Mate account, please logout of your personal account and login using the ABC Study login we emailed to you, for the duration of the study. We have provided an email and password to ensure that your personal information such as name and address is not stored or held by the Withings company.?We will use this to access your sleep data.

Why can’t I enter my name into the Health Mate App?

What happens if the device becomes disconnected to the Health Mate App?

If the sleep device is disconnected from the Health Mate App, it means that no data are being recorded and stored. Therefore, we encourage you to make sure that the app is always connected with the device.

What I should I do if the device is disconnected from the Health Mate App?

The sleep device can be re-connected with the Health Mate App using the {instructions} we provided. Alternatively, you may contact us on 1800 688 419 or click {here}(to contact form) if you need more assistance.

How long will I wear the Actigraph accelerometer?

You will be asked to wear the Actigraph accelerometer for the same 14 days you are using the Withings under-mattress device.
